These four commentary writings appreciate the essay Once More to the Lake in different respects. Some of them analyzed certain writing skill that White used in the essay, such as the contrast, the shuttle of time; while others express their own understandings of the central idea. All of them got a deep understanding for the essay in their own way and expresses it fluently. From these commentary writings I find out some new ideas to appreciate the essay that had never occurred to me when I wrote the commentary.

After reading these commentaries on Once More to the Lake, I felt impressive and inspired. All of these works are selective in words, well organized in structure and profound in meaning. The writers have thorough comprehension upon the original piece and each of them gives their unique point of view. They analyze the essay in terms of its content, style, writing skill, and most importantly, the philosophy of life E.B.White implies. Without doubt, White has presented  readers a beautiful dream of peaceful rural life, at the same time, a wonderful journey to explore the meaning of this complex world.

These four commentaries are very good. They analyse and comment on “Once More to the Lake” from different aspects and angles. No matter on what aspects they comment, they hold high appreciation on “Once More to the Lake”. From these four articles, we can see the writers are good at writing skills. The titles they choose reflect the central ideas that they want to illustrate. The transitions between paragraph and paragraph are natural and smooth. The wording is excellent. It said that three feet of ice is not result of one cold day from of old. And my classmates’ efforts and achievements in writing is a good example for us to well understand this saying. Appreciation of their essay is enjoyable and encourages us to find the space where we could prove ourselves. We chose the same topic, but by comparison we can find the distance between us. We are trying to find out why our friends can figure out such attractive titles and how they can express their ideas with so beautiful language. Let us enjoy the mutual encouragement!

Commenting on the essay Once More to the Lake, these 4 articles, especially the article A Dual Journey to the Lake, not only appreciate the essay from creative aspects, but also excel in the polish of language. The author of the article A Dual Journey to the Lake points out the changes between the journey in the past and the journey at present, indicates the life cycle of human being, concludes that the passage of time leads to the changes of the people though the sceneries are still the same.

It is very important to pick up a good subject at the very beginning. Try best to bring all parts of the composition together and get close to the central idea. The language is very beautiful. Wording must be as careful as possible. All the four ones satisfied all the points mentioned above. The authors pick up an attractive central idea and present their ideas perfectly. If one word’s added, their works may not be so attractive but the writing skills and the strategies make the compositions different. After reading all four of them, you will have a deeper understanding of once more to the lake.

Reading through all the four commentary writings, I can clearly feel that the students had fully understand the author and definitely had read the essay thousands of times. They were enjoying appreciating the words and had joined the author’s trip to that lake. The scenery, the structure, the writing skills attracted us.
