I was stumbling on the school ground when there came the news that I shall make my decision for the final confirm of taking the double degree of economy. It sounds great, for I can get two bachelor in four year if I take it and, of course, finish it; however, as I always did before, I was again trying to weigh the two things, gain and cost. And it was not until the dead line came did I determined---- I want it.

 

Definitely, there are several reasons for me to study for double degree. For example, I can have a better record in college after graduation, I can learn more in the limited college years, and I will have more chances of getting a good job, etc. However, all of these can be attributed to a sentence that makes me forget about all the costs of learning for double degree---- I have a business dream.

 

Since my childhood, I have been dreaming about becoming a successful businessman, a businessman that owns a fortune big enough to help those poor, a businessman that can behave smoothly in business, and a businessman that can almost handle everything about the business. So I need to learn knowledge of business well, which means, unavoidably, I must learn economy, a concept that business are always referred to together with. Actually, as someone said, economy is an essential tool of business while business is in some way a part of economy. So I need knowledge of economy.

However, as an English major student in GDUFS, I don’t think what I can learn from the major is enough. After all, the fact is that what I will get after graduation is the Bachelor of Art. That indicates that if just studying for the major courses, I must be a poor businessman years later with poor knowledge of anything about business; then the broadening of my scope of knowledge is essential. Concerning that it may be a bit tough to learn both degree well and it is possible that choosing to study for double degree may lead to lose-lose in the end, I thought self-study may be enough and more appropriate. But when thinking about the big dream in my mind, I was sober again.    

 

Actually，the outline of my career plan is that I would work for some famous companies after graduation, from the grass roots to the high-rise, learning more about how an enterprise runs, and finally build up my own career. And to be a qualified senior management, further study is a must. That leads to double degree again. Definitely, with business English background now, double degree of economy is the most appropriate way to bedding for my further study in future.

 

That’s why I want it. I want double degree of economy because I hope it can fill my lack of knowledge; I want double degree of economy because it is a part of my plan; and actually all these can be conclude as one sentence that has been mentioned by Martin Luther King as well, “I have dream”. Definitely, I think if you are really clear about what you want to be and what you can be, it is okay to take it, regardless of all the difficulties. It is worth it.
