Professor Malcolm Coulthard at Aston University
To keep all our members informed of the progress of forensic linguistic research in the UK, we invite Prof. DU Jinbang to send back relevant messages successively during his stay there. The following is an updated introduction to Prof. Malcolm Coulthard, a celebrated linguist familiar to Chinese researchers, one of the editors-in-chief of the forensic linguistics journal Speech, Language and the Law. Prof. Malcolm Coulthard is the first president of IAFL, a world famous expert in discourse analysis, and one of the most influential figures in the European academia. He has been actively engaged in forensic linguistics and supervising PhD students, some of whom have scored outstanding academic achievements in this field. Currently he is the PhD supervisor in forensic linguistics at the University of Birmingham, and is also invited to teach at Aston. On the 22nd of March, Prof. Malcolm Coulthard delivered his first speech at Aston University, in which he elaborated the indispensable roles played by forensic linguists in the judicial process with vivid examples and his own research findings. He also gave great compliments to what forensic linguists have been doing. Prof. DU Jinbang and Dr. LI Wenzhong, another visiting academic from China, were present at the lecture. Prof. DU sent back a photo taken while Prof. Malcolm Coulthard was delivering the speech.
